Apicoectomy
An apicoectomy is a specialized microsurgical procedure that can eliminate infection at the root tip when symptoms persist after a root canal. Dr. Diana Dongell makes a small incision in the gum tissue, removes a portion of the underlying bone, and excises the infected tissue, which is then sent for a biopsy. The root tip is resected, and a filling is placed to seal the canal and prevent future infection. Sutures are placed, and a follow-up in one week ensures proper healing. The entire process typically takes about an hour, with a brief second visit for suture removal.
